Release of the publication by Hon’ble Union Minister
The book entitled, “Advances in marine natural products and nutraceutical research” published by ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin was formally released by Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Hon’ble Minster for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India during the 88th Annual General Body Meeting of ICAR held at New Delhi on 14 February, 2017. Lakshmi and A.R.S Menon deals with current trends and advances in the marine natural products and nutraceutical industry, both in India and abroad. Focus is laid on protocols for extraction and purification of prominent classes of bioactive compounds from marine sources. Bioactive compounds from marine cyanobacteria, sponges and seaweeds have since long fascinated organic chemists and have been included as prominent topics in the book. Taking a cue from the latest trend of employing green technologies for extraction of marine bioactive compounds of nutraceutical importance, the book also discusses about supercritical fluid extraction. Emphasis is laid on the industrial perspective of the field of marine natural products and nutraceuticals. Market potential of marine nutraceuticals and the associated national and international regulations are also discussed in the book.
