ICAR CIFT developed a method to modify the non polar polyethylene surface using Polyaniline. Aquaculture cage nets are fabricated mainly by polyethylene or polypropylene materials and the surfaces are highly non polar. Hence it is difficult to coat any effective biocides against biofouling in the aquaculture cage nets. ICAR CIFT developed a methodology to modify the surface of polyethylene with a polar material Polyaniline and the surface became highly polar and ready to coat varied biocides. Studies with nano copper oxide coated over polyethylene –polyaniline surface and effectively inhibited biofouling under aquaculture environment. Similarly, other biocides employed are nano CuO-TiO2, nano ZnO, nano silica based composites, nano graphene-carbondot composite etc.
