ICAR-CIFT Signs Agreement with Tangerine Biosciences for Shrimp Shell Biorefinery Technology

The ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT), Kochi, has entered into a consultancy agreement with Tangerine Biosciences, New Delhi, for the transfer of its shrimp shell biorefinery technology. The agreement, signed on August 7, 2026, marks a significant step toward the commercial utilisation of seafood processing waste through sustainable and value-added approaches.

Tangerine Biosciences, a unit of Shree Shyam Pipes Pvt. Ltd., is a manufacturer and exporter of botanicals and standardised extracts. Through this collaboration, the company aims to adopt advanced biorefinery techniques to expand its product portfolio while promoting eco-friendly processing practices.

The scientific team from ICAR-CIFT includes Dr. Elavarasan K., Dr. Jeyakumari A., Dr. Renuka V., Shri Sreejith S., and Dr. Chandrasekhar V. The collaboration is expected to facilitate technology dissemination and reduce waste disposal challenges in the seafood sector.
