Shri Tariq Anwar, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India visited Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) on 27th May 2013. Shri Tariq Anwar was received by Dr. T.K. Srinivasa Gopal, Director, CIFT, Kochi. This was followed by the visit of the Hon’ble Minister to different divisions of the Institute. Shri Tariq Anwar showed keen interest on the technologies developed at CIFT. Shri Tariq Anwar appreciated the facilities created at the Business Planning and Development (BPD) unit for developing entrepreneurship in fishing industry by utilizing the technologies developed at CIFT.

The visit to the Divisions was followed by a meeting of the Hon’ble Minister with the Scientists and staff of CIFT. The meeting started with ICAR song. Dr. T.K. Srinivasa Gopal, Director, CIFT delivered the presidential address and briefed the august guest on the Institute’s activities. He also welcomed Shri Gopinath, Member, Institute Management Committee (IMC) of CIFT who accompanied the Minister. In his address, the Chief Guest, Shri Anwar, Hon’ble Minister lauded the scientists of CIFT for their untiring efforts in developing appropriate technologies that have immensely benefited from small scale fishers to multi billion rupee exporting seafood industry. In the end he advised scientists to continue the good work for the development of the country. The meeting came to an end with vote of thanks by Dr. S. Balasubramaniam, EIS Division, CIFT, Kochi
