The Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR) has designed and developed a fish descaling machine for removing the scales of fishes in batches. The operation of the machine can be extended for removal of scales from all types of marine as well as fresh water fishes like Sardine, Tilapia to Rohu. This machine is made of SS 304 and has 5 kg capacity. It contains a 0.5 HP AC motor with proper belt reduction mechanism to achieve required drum speed of 20-30 rpm. The drum of 340 mm diameter and 420 mm length was fabricated using SS sheet. Body is fabricated in dismantling type 1-inch square SS tube with a suitable covering in the electrical parts. Inside the drum, perforated SS sheet is fitted with suitable projections to remove the scale, and the drum is provided with a leak proof door with suitable lock.
