ICAR-CIFT Hosts Workshop to Celebrate World Intellectual Property Day 2025

The Zonal Technology Management - Agribusiness Incubation Centre (ZTM-ABI) of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT) organized a workshop on 2nd May 2025 to commemorate World Intellectual Property Day. The event aimed to highlight the vital role of Intellectual Property (IP) in fostering innovation and creativity, particularly in the fisheries and allied sectors. Dr. George Ninan, Director, ICAR-CIFT, inaugurated the workshop and emphasized the strategic importance of effective IP management.
The workshop featured insightful lectures by invited experts from R.K. Dewan & Co., Pune, Maharashtra. Dr. Mohaan R. Dewan, Principal Advocate and Patent & Trademark Attorney, along with Adv. Alka Varma, Senior Patent Associate, shared their expertise on current trends, challenges, and best practices in intellectual property rights, patent filing, and trademark protection. They also highlighted the relevance of patents, copyrights, and other forms of IP specifically in the context of the fisheries sector.

Dr. S. Remya, Senior Scientist at ICAR-CIFT, and Smt. Razia Mohamed A also spoke at the workshop. The event saw active participation from scientists, researchers, technical staff, and scholars from the ICAR-CIFT headquarters and its regional research centres.
